Plot: Leonidas, the King of Sparta receives messengers from King Xerxes asking Sparta to surrender or be annihilated. Leonidas answers to the messenger is that they are thrown into a bottomless pit. Xerxes' attack comes during a religious festival in which Sparta can't go to war unless given permission by the holy men. Leonidas' request is denied by the holy men so the king takes 300 of his finest soldiers to take on Xerxes and his thousands upon thousands of soldiers at the Thermopylae passage.
Extra thoughts: 300 is a violent and gory movie. As soon as the battle starts there is blood everywhere and it keeps on squirting and flying til the end. It gives you insight in to the Spartan warrior heritage; "never surrender, never retreat." I enjoyed the battle strategy most of all. There is nudity in the movie which did not need to be included. 300 also delves into the politics of war and its pitfalls. See it.
