Plot: The film revolves around the raising of an American flag on Mount Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima. The picture taken at that moment is run throughout the newspapers of the free world and the men who planted Old Glory become heroes. The war department sends them on a war bond tour to raise money for the war effort. Some of the men relish the spotlight while others feel guilt for being brought home from the war leaving others stay behind.
Extra thoughts: My favorite and most memorable scene is the inside the cockpit view of an F-4 corsair attacking Mount Suribachi . The visual richness, sound, and special effects made me say wow. I was disappointed with the political input Hollywood related to today’s war effort. It didn’t need to be added to this movie.
