Plot: The six ladies are life-long friends in a small Louisiana town. The daughter, Shelby (Roberts), battles with diabetes and becomes joyfully pregnant despite warning from her doctors and family. Shelby has a healthy baby boy, but the birth takes a toll on her body and she eventually passes on. M'Lynn (Field), Shelby's mother, has to rely on her friends to get her through one of the most difficult times in life when you lose a child.
Extra thoughts: This film has drama and comedy. The cast is fantastic. MacLaine and Dukakis play off of each other very well and Field gives a great performance. You will enjoy this film; particularly if you are a female.
