Plot: There Will Be Blood tells the story of oilman Daniel Plainview. It starts with his digging for silver and progresses into oil. A young man comes and tells Daniel of an area filled with oil and for $500.00 he'll tell him where it is. When Daniel visits the area he finds he has to deal with Eli, the pastor of the Third Revelation Church. Will Daniel win the congregation over and get the oil?
Extra thoughts: There Will Be Blood is a dark movie in the sense of its focus on the depraved motivations of people. Daniel Day-Lewis won the Oscar for Best Actor in his portrayal of Daniel Plainview, an untrusting, greedy man. Another negative I found with the film is the portrayal of Christians as rubes with no brains. The pastor of the church, Eli, is a misguided, greedy, spiritually askew man. I did find the plot interesting and the writing was alright. See it if you have time. It is quite a long movie.
