The Train
Main Actor(s)/Actresses: Burt Lancaster as Labiche
Memorable supporting cast: Michel Simon as Papa Boule
Plot: With allied forces closing in on Paris in August of 1944, the Germans decide to take France’s national heritage of paintings and artwork worth billions. The Germans pack up the artwork and put it on a train bound for Germany. That’s where the adventure begins in this power-packed movie. Burt Lancaster and the Resistance use trickery and sabotage to thwart the Germans from succeeding.
Extra thoughts: You will enjoy this movie. It’s not widely seen on cable or satellite, but it should be. It is shown in black and white and was released in 1964. You will see how important trains were during the war, not like today where trucks have taken the more important role.
Director: John Frankenheimer
